Design Guild Mark awards 2012
Chorus is pleased to announce that Simon Pengelly has been awarded a Design Guild Mark 2012 for his Theo range, commissioned and designed for Chorus Furniture Limited.
Design Guild Marks are awarded each year by the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers for excellence in the design of furniture in volume production. The goal is to reward the work of the finest designers working in Britain and the best of British designers working abroad and to promote a greater awareness of the importance of investment in design.
Pieces and ranges are selected, by a panel of distinguished judges, from those submitted and the awards are bestowed upon designs judged to achieve excellence in respect of the criteria. The criteria applied in addition to design excellence concern materials, manufacture and function, and whether, through a combination or all of these, the design is considered outstanding.
Theo demonstrates appropriate use of materials; sustainability through material selection, durability and recyclability; elements of new thinking in wood furniture; good value; problem solving through its stackability and ease of handling; and of course fitness for purpose.
Besides the chair and the wide range of tables, the Theo range now includes several matching ‘additions’ consisting of, a high stool, benches and an armchair; all to be shown at this year’s Design Junction show, 19 – 23 September at the Sorting office, London WC1.
